Session: ""Lean and Six Sigma Primer: A Leadership Toolkit for Performance Improvement""

Amy F. Carrier is President and CEO of Centra, a $1 billion not-for-profit integrated health system in Central Virginia.  Before joining Centra in September 2021, she served as the market President of Bon Secours Hampton Roads and was promoted from Chief Operating Officer of Bon Secours Virginia following the 2018 merger of Bon Secours and Mercy Health.

 

Under her leadership, Bon Secours experienced considerable improvement in quality and safety metrics, as well as significant growth in financial performance. Amy has proven expertise in strategy, operations, service line development, and strong community relations.

 

As a regional collaborator, Amy has served on numerous community boards and has been deeply involved with the American Heart Association. She currently serves as co-chair of the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association Workforce Steering Committee. Amy is a tremendous advocate for Centra Caregivers and encourages a “People First” approach by leading with humility and compassion. With a zest for knowledge and understanding, she is deeply committed to mentoring aspiring leaders. Additionally, Amy is passionate about the connection between an organization’s culture and its effects on quality and safety.

 

Amy earned a bachelor’s degree in labor and industrial relations from The Pennsylvania State University and a master's degree in business administration from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She has held adjunct faculty roles in the Health System Administration Masters’ programs at Georgetown University and The University of Maryland.
